Do you want to make deep and meaningful connections? If you do, stop asking the most boring, predictable, mundane questions such as:
1. What do you do?
2. How are you?
3. How’s it going.
Especially #1, what do you do? Not everyone is defined by what they do. For some, this can be interpreted as “what are you worth?” We are human beings, not human doings. For example, the single mom working a 9-5 customer service job may not feel defined by that job if that’s not her passion. Her passion might be her kids. Her passion might be the little Etsy shop she runs as a side gig because she’s talented at making arts and crafts and she enjoys it. Those are likely the things that define her.

Instead trying asking:
1. Working on anything exciting these days?
2. Doing anything exciting recently?
3. What’s your biggest goal right now.
These questions bring about permission for connection. Chances are if someone is not defined by what they do, they will have so many details to tell you in these answers and it will give you real perspective on their life. Going back to that single mom example, chances are she’d tell you about her kids or that little Etsy shop side gig with a sparkle in her eye. If they are passionate about what they do and find definition in it, that’s ok! They’ll probably mention that.

Wanna go deeper? Ask what book, movie, or TV character they are most like. This is the self narrative question that will give you deep perspective on how they see themselves. They likely connect to the character’s values and personality.

❄️ The Theory of Let Them ❄️
This mindset is incredibly powerful. People are going to piss us off. It’s inevitable, whether it’s a total stranger, or our closest friends and family. When frustration arises lots of times it’s because we have lost control of the situation, and in truth there’s so much less in life we have control of in life, than that in which we do. Rather than stew in frustration, exhale and say to yourself, “let them.” This lets them off the hook, gives you a sense of rising above in taking the high road, and a breath of fresh air in terms of relief. This shows you what is within your control and what isn’t and when you spend time and energy on things that are not within your control all it does is bring you stress. This is an extremely powerful boundary.

Most people won’t do this because the results most of the time can leave you feeling rather lonely. This is where the second step of “let them” comes in where we say to ourselves, “let me.” By saying let me, we are taking ownership for our own needs and making ourselves a priority by caring for ourselves in ways others may not. But who knows us better than ourselves right? So you will know exactly how to care for yourself in that moment. This is an opportunity to take your power back.

❗️ Please note the let them approach should not be used in abusive, dangerous dynamics. If you are in serious danger and clearly dealing with abuse, do not engage, but do not just let them take advantage of you either. Stay safe and put distance between you and the other person as soon and as safely as possible.

What do you guys think of Neptune? 🐙 I’ve been hearing a lot about it lately, but because it technically doesn’t exist yet it’s hard to say whether this will be a good thing or not. I am signed up as a beta tester. Same name there as here if you’re heading there too. I figure even if nothing comes of it, in the event it does take off, I figure it’s probably a good thing to be an early adopter. I’m curious to know your opinions on it. Can we even have an opinion this early on?

You may deconstruct long held beliefs, ideals, and mental, emotional, social/cultural conditioning making you feel like you’ve lost yourself and all sense of direction, identity, and foundation in life. Friend, I hold your hand when I tell you that this is completely normal. It’s the first steps to a spiritual awakening, which we can experience many of through a lifetime, just peeling back many layers of it. We outgrow things and that’s ok! We’ve been doing it all of our lives. If you had a favorite shirt or a favorite pair of shoes as a little kid, chances are you eventually grew out of them and needed new clothes. If you really loved that item of clothing, it may have felt a little sad to say goodbye to it. But new always comes.

I’m not saying the new replaces what was lost, especially if what was lost was meaningful to you. But the new brings about a freshness, excitement, and a new story all of its own just waiting for you to behold. We can only carry with us so much to the next level, and the things that no longer serve us can’t always come with. It’s bittersweet. I’ve actually been on the side where the “problem” person broadcasted that I was the problem to others, in a few different situations. It’s hurtful! Especially when it comes from those you may have trusted once before. We can’t control our reputation and what other people think of us, no matter how hard we try to curate our image. And we shouldn’t mind what others say about us anyway, whether it’s good or bad. Just because you don’t outright put something down doesn’t mean you’re being supportive either. Saying nothing and taking a silent/recessive role can be interpreted as lack of support/interest as well. Hearing support is important. Verbalizing and interacting has value. Heads up: I know we are past the New Moon in Capricorn. I didn’t get around to posting this until now, but still wanted to share my thoughts.

This new moon in Capricorn in my 2nd house was really bringing me some interesting perspectives on lack mindset (we’re past the new moon now though as I post this). But these are some reflections I talk myself through in the moment on how lack mindset is passed down, and how it’s imposed upon us from others at times. Most importantly, I want to heal this. Heads up: I know we are past the New Moon in Capricorn. I didn’t get around to posting this until now, but still wanted to share my thoughts.

This new moon in Capricorn in my 2nd house was really bringing me some interesting perspectives on lack mindset (we’re past the new moon now though as I post this).
